The Doors Open

Center Hardware is founded on Main Street in St. Albans — a small, dependable neighborhood shop.

1961

A New Home

John David Anderson III moves the store to its current location on MacCorkle Avenue, setting the stage for decades of growth.

1970s–80s

Becoming a Landmark

Through booms, busts, and the rise of big-box retail, the store doubles down on what makes it different: real people, real advice.

1990s

Joining Ace

Center Hardware becomes affiliated with Ace Hardware, expanding selection while staying proudly independent.

Second Generation · Celebrating 75 Years

Now in the hands of John David Anderson III and Marcia Anderson — the second generation of the Anderson family — Center Hardware is celebrating 75 years of neighborly, hands-on service.
